Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

  1. Hot Pursuit
    • Ceiling Fans
  2. Opportunity Statement
    • Ceiling fans are a magnet for dust collection which requires periodical cleaning and maintenance to ensure appearance and health standards in homes and businesses.
      • Who: Anyone who has had the pleasure of watching their ceiling fans fill with dust and had to clean them.
      • What: Dust accumulates on fans requiring periodical cleaning.
      • Why: Dust falls everywhere however some places (e.g. the kitchen, the floor, windows, windowsills, etc.) are frequently cleaned. Ceiling fans are not usually cleaned until dust has noticeably accumulated.
  3. Testing
    • Testing the who.
      • Is there anyone who does not agree that this can and has become a problem for owners of ceiling fans?
    • Testing the what.
      • How often do you clean your fans?
      • When do you clean your fans? Routinely or when you notice the accumulation?
      • Do you find the task to be difficult?
    • Testing the why.
      • Why do you feel the need to clean your fans?
      • Health reasons?
      • Appearance?
      • All of the above?
      • New reasons?
      • Why do you clean other areas of your home/business but neglect the fans?

  1. Brian,

I love this idea!! I hate when dust accumulates on my fan and I have to screw around with a duster. I love the idea of having graphics on them. I know here in Gainesville most of these apartments are old and ugly. Just looking up at a fan blade with Batman logos on it would be cool! It is a great gift for many friends as well! I think you are defiantly onto something here!! I am excited to see what you come up with in Part 2.

  2. Brian, I think this is a great idea! I always have to clean my fan because of allergies and a duster never seems to get the job done. I think the idea of adding graphics to fans would totally make the fans better and it is a huge opportunity because people can live with a boring fan, but they would love a fan that would represent their personality and help to make ugly and prison-cell-looking dorms and apartments fee like home.

  3. hey brian! i think this is awesome! I just started to notice this this year in my apartment when I no longer had a cleaning service that would handle this for me like I did at home. When i would clean my apartment the last thing that I would ever think would need to be cleaned was the top of my ceiling fan until my roommate pointed it out to me. Adding graphics would help combat this problem and make it more aesthetically appealing.

  4. Brian, this is definitely a good idea. To be honest, I am never clean my ceelings fans. Adding graphics to to fans would make people's lives better and easier. This is a very interesting business that should be heard by other people, I am sure there are many of them.

  5. Hey Brian. I had to wander out of my group to comment on another blog, and I am ecstatic to have clicked on yours! What a brilliant concept. Just the idea of slip on covers to add personalized graphics alone is awesome, but expanding your market to those who are concerned with cleanliness, allergens ect. is genius. Keep going with this for sure. I will be checking back often. Good luck

  6. I personally have never cleaned my fan, because I don't really clean anything, and have definitely had problems with dust accumulation on my fans. I used to have asthma growing up as a kid and it would be hard to breath when there is too much dust in the air. Also cleaning your fan is kind of like washing behind your ears or flossing, we all know we should do it but most of the time we either forget or don't want to. I'm curious as to what you were thinking in terms of solutions to this problem though.

  7. Brian,
I think this is a great idea! My sister has asthma and a lot of allergies so she was always really sensitive to dust and we had to dust our fans constantly. I can’t think of anything else like this currently on the market, and I feel like personalizing them would be a hit for parents with kids. This is definitely the biggest opportunity that I have read about for this class and I look forward to seeing how you develop the idea further! Great job!

  8. This is a very useful product. I currently have whatever the best product on Amazon is for cleaning fans, but the end result is less than stellar, which is infuriating considering I just paid money to make a slightly smaller mess than I did with normal paper towels. A key for me would be a tool that can fit in multiple fan sizes, as a product that could clean bathroom vents as well as ceiling fans would create a more broad appeal and likely make the product a lot more successful.

  9. Hey Brian,
I can't believe how much I overlooked the hassle of cleaning my fan once a week! I think putting graffics on fans would be a cool way to make your room that much more personal. I feel like there is a huge market for this product ranging from young children to families. Imagine your fan designed for your favorite sports team! Great job

  10. Hey Brian,
I love this idea I absolutely hate seeing dust on my fan it grosses me out! I literally clean it everyday but I think your idea would help my OCD. I also thought the idea of having graphics on them is really cool it gives your room a personal touch to it. Also I think instead of me paying attention to every piece of dust on it I would look at the graphics. All in all these were great ideas!
