What's Next?

Existing Market
  1. Interviews
  2. Future Path
    • Based on my interviews I have concluded that I should be looking for easy ways to apply my product to ceiling fans which are higher in the air. I should be looking for safe efficient ways to ensure people with ceiling fans that are high would want to buy my product as it could still be a hassle getting to them. Looking beyond the quality and design of the product and focusing on ease of application will become an important factor to the success of this product. Another area of focus would be talking with manufacturers to create a joint venture which would make marketing my product easier. Also I need to be cognizant of warranties and if adding a product such as mine would void current ceiling fan warranties.

New Market
  1. Radically Different Market
    • Poor struggling males
    • Young struggling high school or college freshmen males
    • Older minimum wage working males
  2. Value Creation
    • This concept could give them intrinsic or extrinsic goals to strive for such as:
    • A) owning a ceiling fan and the feeling of accomplishment from how far they have come when this initial idea was presented to them; Covades being a symbol of success to them
    • B) coming up with their own idea or creation which would help to alleviate their struggle
    • C) being a source of inspiration for striving to become successful in a venture.
  3. Interviews
  4. Reflection
    • I received a lot of the same feedback about my new market as the old. Ideas about making the application of the covers easier and making sure warranties remain covered were new ideas. Also thinking about making deals with ceiling fan manufacturers was a great idea in my opinion. As far as the new market, people felt having designs and customization was the most important aspect. Perhaps it coincides with today's culture and generation looking for new ways to customize old devices.

  1. Brian,

I think you approached this assignment in the proper way, while trying to receive additional feedback on your concept. I believe the amount of effort and thinking you have put into this concept to this point shows that you do not need to make many modifications or additions to the product. Also, adding a device in the packaging of the covers that were mentioned from your interviewees makes a lot of sense to add, and would be beneficial in promoting the product.

  2. Brian,

I am very pleased to have seen that you have done this assignment! I think that receiving as much feedback as possible is vital for any concept. I would always treat my interviews as though they were a focus group for me concepts; you can get some real inside info on customers. Great work!

  3. Hey Brian,
Your post is organized in a way that is clear and concise. I believe your interviews gave you very valuable information that you will need to take into account as you pursue this down the line. Your idea is great and I love to see the depth of your concept. It seems that you truly understand your market and what you must produce to be successful. I agree with your interviewees that working with a manufacturer would be a great way to market your product. Great job

  4. Brian! I can always count on you for completing all of the assignments and I think that goes to show just how much passion you have behind your concept. Your interviews continue to provide good feedback and you are really taking that feedback to heart. I think, along with your interviewees, that customization is a major part of your product line. Not only is your product beneficial, but your customers are able to make it their own.

  5. I agree with Jayme!^ You're the man, Brian. Anyways, I think you're really passionate about your idea and you have a drive to figure out what will and won't work. I personally don't think I would use your product but I think there is a very niche market you could reach. I serously wish you the best in your other ventures because I know you'll definitly have some!

  6. Hello Brian, I may sound repetitive, but you are the only one who completed this assignment in our section, and I think you did a great job on top of that. Of course, being the only one who's done this, you really seem to have a deep connection with your idea, and I can't wait to see where it goes. It has a lot of potential!

  7. Your idea is useful and necessary. I think that once you perfect the design, the next chapter should be accessorizing the covers to accommodate sports teams, Disney movies, bands and singers, ect. Useful is one thing while fun is quite another. If applied, I think you could have people that are not necessarily interested in the dust technology and are simply looking for another way to spice up their room. I think it would open up a pretty big market for you.

  8. Everyone,

Thanks for the comments and I agree with you John. I have realized the dust component has become an added benefit but what people want is the customization aspect of it. Also thanks Amanda and Jayme as I try to be the man :) and I will try even harder to get you to use my product Amanda. I don't give up.

  9. Hi Brian,

I really enjoyed hearing about your idea and felt you enjoyed making it and talking about it. I understand how people could skip these assignments having a full time job and being a full time student in the summer time its hard to make time to go out and interview people. You always do you work though and I feel that super awesome and it is not just work thrown together overnight its good work. I feel your interviews went well and people gave you some great responses. All in all great work!

  10. Yeah I never even thought about how to apply the coves on the blades, just kinda assumed one would use a ladder or something. Also my roommate showed me his ceiling fan the other day and it was covered in dust. I think he said he hadn't cleaned it in almost three years. I immediately thought of your concept, and how relevant it is to the market of college students who don't really think about it.

  11. Hi Brian,
I liked your idea to make things as simple and effective as possible. It will help you reach a bigger market. As a person who suffers from allergies I am really interested in the dust reduction and how that can help me long term. I think you have many angles to sell this idea and it will really help with making the business profitable in the long term. You clearly did a lot of research to make this idea happen. Great job!

  12. You did a great job a reevaluating your product idea and took into consideration the feedback. Creating a joint venture with a ceiling fan manufacturer is a great avenue to take, also maybe think about seeking out joint ventures from manufacturers of vacuum cleaners and your product could be an added accessory. I know when I purchased my vacuum cleaner one of the attachments was a fan cleaner. Keep up your determination!

  13. That's such a good point about the height of the ceiling fans. My parents have a house with high, lofty ceilings and equally as high ceiling fans. Right now, my parents use a long-handled ceiling fan cleaner that dusts/brushes the dust off - maybe you could come up with a long-handled Covade applicator/remover? Some thought into designer and ease of use would have to be put into it, but if it was easy enough to use then this problem could be solved relatively cheaply, I would think.

  14. Wow ok, congrats on being the only person in our section to complete this assignment! I would have never thought about the struggle that it would take to put something like this on a ceiling fan that was really high up, but I honestly think that could be a great venture to look into next as it would add value to your existing one. I also really liked the idea of trying to get a deal with a ceiling fan manufacturer. In the end it could be something that would be mutually beneficial, because it could save them manufacturing costs for paint or coatings on fan blades if they included Covades with their fans. Great job!

  15. Brian,
I think that a cover for ceiling fan blades is a great idea. They would be much easier to clean than having to climb up and dust the actual blades. I like what you said about your future path. I think that putting covers on higher fans would be hard, but If there was a way to do it, I think it would be very successful.
